The World Water Congress, organized by the International Water Resources Association (IWRA), is being held this year in Marrakech, Morocco. Since 1973, the World Water Congress has aimed to share global experience, developments, new knowledge, and research results in the field of water.

With this year’s theme, “Water in a Changing World: Innovation and Adaptation,” the congress will address the dynamic links between water, natural ecosystems, energy, agriculture, and other human activities at a time of global challenges such as climate change and humanitarian and environmental crises.

Yumaklı to hold bilateral meetings

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı will attend the congress on Thursday, December 4, which is expected to host participants from nearly 100 countries. As part of his visit, he will hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts. At the Türkiye Pavilion set up in the congress exhibition area, presentations will be made on topics such as “Türkiye’s Mega Water Investments,” “Paradigm Shift in Irrigation Projects,” “Risk Reduction Practices from the Perspective of Agricultural Climate Change,” “Transboundary Cooperation Activities,” “Introduction to the 5th Istanbul International Water Forum,” and the “Water Efficiency Mobilization.” During the closing session of the 19th World Water Congress, to be held on December 5, the host country of the next World Water Congress will be announced. Afterwards, a “Flag Handover Ceremony” will take place between Morocco and the country selected to host the 20th World Water Congress.

“Istanbul is one of the strongest candidates”

In the statement, Minister Yumaklı shared the following remarks regarding the World Water Congress: “Istanbul is one of the strongest candidates to host the 20th World Water Congress in 2027. I wholeheartedly believe that the next congress will be held in Istanbul, the capital of water civilization. Our Istanbul, the meeting point of civilizations and continents, has hosted numerous meetings where many global issues have been addressed. It would be especially meaningful for water-related challenges—made even more pressing by global climate change—to be discussed at an international level in Istanbul, the capital of water civilization.”
